July 2008 - eCOMPAS Helps Automate the Bronx Wide HIV Testing Initiative

The NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene has joined doctors, clinics, hospitals and community organizations to make HIV testing available to everyone in the Bronx with the goal of testing 85,000 people per year. eCOMPAS has been launched to automates the quarterly reporting process.

The Bronx can lead New York City in the fight against HIV/AIDS by being the first borough where everyone gets tested. People who get tested will help protect themselves as well as their partners. They will get better access to care and treatment and promote longer, healthier lives.

- eCOMPAS Automates the Largest HOPWA Program in the Nation

Addressing the housing needs of New Yorkers with HIV/AIDS is an important challenge facing the largest HOPWA program in the nation.  eCOMPAS has been implemented to assist the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and its service providers enabling hundreds of users to manage essential program information in an easy-to-use system in real-time.  A One-Click APR report saves dozens of person-hours, reduces errors, and is clickable for drill-down data quality assurance.

The HOPWA Program was established by HUD (Housing and Urban Development) to address the specific needs of persons living with HIV/AIDS and their families. HOPWA makes grants to local communities, States, and nonprofit organizations for projects that benefit low income persons medically diagnosed with HIV/AIDS and their families.

A powerful and user-friendly Referrals system has been implemented in eCOMPAS. Case Managers can make referrals easily, track their status, and follow-up in real-time. Receiving agencies can accept or reject referrals, and when a service is logged, the referral is automa-
tically marked as "Delivered" proving powerful "confirmation of service" reporting. Referrals pending for more than two weeks are flagged in a report for follow-up. Other useful reports and statistics can help improve access and reduce barriers to care.
